Decision brief

What changes when a result may be used legally?

Collection and documentation need to match the receiving authority’s requirements, including identity verification and chain-of-custody where applicable. Ask the collection team what current service is available and what each participant must bring. Do not substitute an at-home or personal-knowledge path without confirming it will be accepted for the intended purpose. The test result and identity evidence remain in the testing system, not Noble Account.

Bring to the conversation: Bring the receiving agency’s instructions, participants, identification questions, and desired appointment location.

Choose the right journey before collection

If results may be needed for custody, child support, immigration or benefits, tell the team before booking. Confirm the receiving court or agency's requirements; acceptance cannot be assumed from the test name alone.

Prepare for collection

The original booking journey calls for identity documentation and witnessed collection to preserve chain of custody. Confirm identification and consent requirements for each participant, including children, with the collection team.

  • Discuss who is being tested
  • Confirm the intended use of results
  • Confirm required identity documents
  • Arrange witnessed collection and result delivery

Common questions

Can a personal test be used for a legal purpose?

Personal testing is intended for personal knowledge. If legal or agency use is possible, discuss the required collection and chain-of-custody process before testing.
